Willy Vossen, Goudsmid – Beeldend kunstenaar

Willy Vossen, geboren te Meerssen, d.d. 7 juli 1934, voormalig bestuurslid, nu lid van de Limburgse Kunstkring, genoot van 1952 tot 1956 de opleiding goudsmeden te Schoonhoven en sloot deze studie succesvol af met een eerste prijs.
Nadien volgde hij nog enkele cursussen aan de “Kunst- und Gewerbeschule” te Pforzheim (Dld.) en vestigde zich in 1958 als goudsmid en in 1963 als goudsmid-juwelier te Maastricht.

Omdat zijn creativiteitsdrang geen rust vond, begon hij in 1985 met schilderen bij o.a. Irene Staal (USA), Franszc Witte, Chrit Rousseau, Peter Bertus en ten slotte bij Jan Nelissen,”Janel” (Ned.)

In 1989 herstartte hij intensief met modelboetseren bij Juul Sadée en later bij Gerard Schuwirth; om tot figuraties in brons te komen.

Ultimo 1993 droeg hij zijn bedrijf over aan een zoon om zijn leven voortaan fulltime aan kunst te kunnen wijden.
Tot 2005 maakte hij gedurende een tiental jaren zijn kennis en vakbekwaamheid overdrachtelijk
door het doceren van boetseren en schilderen aan overwinteraars in Spanje.

Zijn goudsmidvaardigheid en de anatomische scholing kunnen als belangrijke bases aangemerkt worden bij het creëren van bronzen beelden in een eigen stijl, waarbij kubistische en blonde vormen tot strakke geabstraheerde figuraties worden samen gesmeed.

Thans vervaardigt hij ook weer objecten en sieraden in edelmetaal, waarin het ontwikkelde
“eigen handschrift” duidelijk herkenbaar is en waardoor de kunstzinnige cirkel “rond”genoemd kan worden.

Willy Vossen , born on the 7th July 1934 in Meerssen, (in the south of the Netherlands), was a ex-former member of the board from the Limburg Art Society. During 1952 until 1956 he followed in Schoonhoven (in the middle of the Netherlands) the study for goldsmith and successful obtained his title and even received the first price. After this study he went to Phorzheim (an historical jewelry city in Germany). Over there he followed many courses at the Art and Education school, finally in 1958 he started a goldsmith office in Maastricht and in 1963 he started a jeweler shop with a goldsmith office. To fulfill his impulse for creativity he started painting in 1985. In the USA with Irene Staal, and in the Netherlands with Franszc Witte, Chrit Rousseau, Peter Bertus and finally with Jan Nelissen also know as “Janel”. In 1989 he restarts intensive with model-molding together with Juul Sadee en after with Gerard Schuwirth; specially for learning the molding in bronze. The skills he learned as goldsmith and anatomy became very useful in this new challenge. In 1993 he transferred his company to his son so he could now fully spend all his time to perform his creative ideas. Creating portraits in Bronze and the realization now from the more monumental figures in an own style, in which cubist and blond shapes or even strictly abstract shapes will forge together. In the period from 1995 until 2005 he gave education to Dutch people during the winter in Spain in the art of molding and painting.

2001 Three frame (combined technique) for the celebration of 75 years from the cement factory, head-office in Maastricht
2002 “Brikkebekker” a statue in Bronze for the community of Rekem (Belgium) to honor its past, known as a important center for workers to make bricks in factory.
1988 until now: Many group and solo expositions in Belgium, Germany, France, Netherlands and Spain.
